Lamar County, MS(WDAM)-The new Oak Grove Senior Center is just about ready to open its doors. The new facility is on two acres of land off West 4th Street and will offer seniors ages 55 and up a place to eat, exercise and participate in activities much closer to home.
The center cost $1 million to build and was funded by the county along with a community development block grant and the Mississippi Development Authority. District 4 Supervisor Fred Hatten says Oak Grove was the only area in the county without a senior center.
"Since I was first elected several constituents have approached me about building a center for oak grove residents, and I am happy I could help make it happen," Hatten says.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the center at 11 a.m. May 21.
