FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Wednesday was a quiet day outside of Martin & Martin Auctioneers, Inc., but inside it was anything but that.

The auction company, based out of South Carolina, held its first sale from its new location in Brooklyn.  Construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and tools were all up for grabs.

Owner Jeff Martin said the company jumped on the opportunity to locate one of their auction houses in Forrest County.

"I had the opportunity to purchase it from the bank and feel like we've made a good investment here," said Martin. "We've been welcomed real strongly."

Jeffrey Blackwell placed his older model John Deere tractor in the auction.

"We are going to run through here and see how we do this afternoon," said Blackwell.

He said he is glad to have this type of auctioneer in the area.

"I'm proud to see a market out here," Blackwell said. "There's not much of a market to sell your moving equipment."

Donnie Bolling came ready to buy, and he did. Bolling has been attending auctions for over 35 years.  He said he is pleased, so far with new company and is looking forward to future sales.

"It's a good setup, quick and easy, you see everything good; it's a real good deal," said Bolling.

Martin said the company is town for the long haul.

"We've been in business 35 years in the Carolinas and I want it to be that here," Martin said.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
