Hattiesburg schools superintendent to resign

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg schools superintendent Annie Wimbish is expected to submit her letter of resignation to the school board Tuesday night.

Wimbish, 54, has been superintendent since 2005. In late 2009, Wimbish was a finalist for the superintendent's job in Virginia, but she did not get the job. At the time, Wimbish said she applied to be near her brother who was ill and lived in Virginia.

Ironically, Wimbish appeared with Laurel superintendent Glen McGee in March on our morning show to talk about school budgets days before McGee announced he was retiring.  McGee replied, "Now is the time," when asked why he was retiring. "When it's time, you'll know," McGee added.

Wimbish does not have another job offer.
