Poplarville, MS (AP) - A Pearl River County grand jury has indicted Virgil Matthews Jr. for murder in a 2009 slaying in Poplarville.

Matthews was arrested in July 2009 in the death of 27-year-old Randy Prince who died as a result of a gun shot wound to the chest.

Matthews was freed from custody after a justice court judge found no probably cause to hold him. However, prosecutors presented the case to the grand, which issued a murder indictment in February.

Chief investigator Donnie Saucier says Matthews fled before the indictment could be serve. He says the U.S Marshals Service arrested Matthews on March 15 in Indiana.

Matthews has been returned to Pearl River County, where he is being held without bond pending a court hearing on the indictment.
