JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A key lawmaker says there's been some progress in negotiations over the reauthorization of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

An employment agency bill stalled during the 2010 session when some Democratic lawmakers wanted to force Republican Gov. Haley Barbour to accept $56 million in federal stimulus for the jobless.

House Labor Committee Chairman Rufus Straughter says Barbour won't fight an attempt to shorten the period people have to wait between filing for unemployment and receiving the benefits.

Barbour spokesman Dan Turner says the governor remains opposed to giving unemployment benefits to part-time workers. That's another requirement to get the federal funds.
