Award winning author to visit USM

HATTIESBURG, MS. (University of Southern Mississippi) - A veteran children's literature proclaimed "America's Best Living Author for Young Adults" by the Washington Post will be the featured presenter at The University of Southern Mississippi's next University Forum Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. in ballrooms 2 and 3 of the Thad Cochran Center.  

Richard Peck, author of "Are You in the House Alone?" (winner of an Edgar Allen Poe Award); "A Long Way from Chicago" (recipient of a Newbery Honor) and "Year Down Yonder" (a Newbery Award winner) will present "Writing Real Books in the Facebook Age." Admission to this event is free and it is open to the public.

 Peck has produced dozens of titles for children and young adults in a career spanning decades. He holds multiple honors for his work, including the Southern Miss Medallion from the 1991 Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival at Southern Miss and the Margaret A. Edwards Award for outstanding contributions in literature for young adults.

 University Forum is presented by the Southern Miss Honors College along with supporting partners, including Peck's presentation which is sponsored in part by the university's de Grummond Children's Literature Collection.
