HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The West Pine Street road improvement project is in full swing. The project includes the re - paving of West Pine from Broadway to Highway 49. It also includes installation of new curbs and gutters where needed.
Dunn Roadbuilders was awarded the contract for the $650,000 project. The work is being overseen by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Officials said there will be minimal disruption to traffic flow and businesses while the work is being done.
"There will be times that they will only let one lane pass at a time. Which means you got to stop till the flag man flags you around the equipment," said Benny Sellers, Director of Engineering for the City of Hattiesburg. "They will be working along a lot of those businesses there where they got two or more driveways. There will be times when they will have to close off one of the driveways." "But at all times every business and I don't believe there are any homes, every business will have ingress and egress into their facility," Sellers added.
Work began March 1and is expected to be completed by the end of April. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
