Four middle school students open fire on the school playground

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Four Park Forest Middle School students have been arrested after one them brought a gun to school and fired it on the playground.

Principal Lamont Cole said a student had reported to him Tuesday that a 14-year-old seventh-grade boy had brought a .380 caliber handgun to school.

Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, said the boy had taken the gun from a relative without the relative knowing it.

Hicks said the boy had taken the gun outside and fired it into the ground.

After firing the weapon, she said the boy gave the gun to three other seventh-grade boys.

Hicks said the four students were booked one count of illegally carrying a weapon on school property.
