Laurel negotiates with current water carrier

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The city of Laurel is in deep negotiations with its current water carrier.

United Water Environment Services out of Hattiesburg has been providing water services to the city of laurel since 2006.

Tuesday, the council contemplated entering a 15 year contract with the company based off previous years.

Several council members were concerned about being over charged on chemical supplies, staffing, and annual fees. The company assured the city that those adjustments would be made in a sum of $2.9 million if a 15 year contract is granted.

The council plans to meet Tuesday, March 23 at 10:00a.m.  before committing to a future contract with united water.
