Hattiesburg Police Department reaccredited

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department is now in its second round of accreditation from the state.

Chief Frazier Bolton was presented a certificate of reaccreditation Thursday afternoon by the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.

The department is already accredited nationally, and became accredited by the state commission three years ago. New accreditation is required every three years, which means reviewing all of the departments procedures and policies as well as reviewing evidence and patrol tactics.

"It demonstrates to the citizens that they are a profession police department first of all," said Bob Morgan with Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation.

Bolton said the department endeavors to keep the polices and procedures of the Hattiesburg Police Department current.

"What we want to do is keep that edge that we have in the past, and we will continue to give and deliver the best service anybody can do in the police department," said Bolton.

The accreditation also helps the department with liability issues.
