Laurel collects old cell phones for soldiers

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Member's of the Mayor's Youth Council in Laurel have been collecting cell phones for soldiers as part of their service project for this year.

Wednesday, the city helped their cause by donating old city cell phones and some phones that had been confiscated.

The phones will either be refurbished or recycled for pre-paid phone cards to be given out to the soldiers.

The service project allowed the students to be patriotic and think green at the same time by keeping the old phones out of the landfills.

Students across the state are involved in the project in preparation for this year's Youth Leadership Summit in Jackson.

The city donated over 100 phones for the project. Copyright 2009 WDAM. All rights reserved.
