Alleged meth cooker causes explosion in Hattiesburg hotel

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A 20-year-old Ocean Springs man is in a hospital after a mishap while allegedly cooking meth in a Hattiesburg hotel.

Just after midnight Wednesday at a Budget Inn along Hwy 49 in Hattiesburg the suspect allegedly tried to cook meth when a small explosion erupted in his room, said police.

When officers arrived, the suspect admitted his burn injuries were from cooking the meth.

Precursors were found inside the room, and the suspect was taken to Forrest General Hospital and later transported to a burn center in Georgia for treatment.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

In addition, two Jones County men are behind bars for allegedly manufacturing meth.

Jeremy Adams and Charlie Trudeau. both of Sandersville were arrested after deputies received numerous complaints and tips about possible drug activity in the 200 block of South Pine Street in Sandersville.

    There were two Rite Aid stores in the Pine Belt at the start of 2018; one in Petal and one in Hattiesburg. Now, only the Petal location remains open, but it will soon close its doors for good, too.
