Robberies increase in Columbia

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - The city of Columbia is dealing with a higher than usual number of robberies for the month of February.

The Columbia Police Department said the are investigating 24 auto and home burglaries.

The majority of the break-ins involved change and cash being taken. Authorities said the burglaries have been happening in concentrated areas near the G and K Subdivision, Broadmoore Avenue and Chickasaw Trail.

Several of the homes and vehicles are just blocks from each other.

Investigators said they have a plan to stopping this sudden burglary spike.

"We are just going to have to saturate these areas and try to think like they think and bring in some more man power - off duty police -  and get in some undercover vehicles and get out on foot and hopefully try to catch them like that," said Detective Chris Brumfield.

Brumfield says he believes a group of juveniles are responsible
