2 killed in head-on collision

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Two people were killed and a third person was injured following a head - on collision Monday evening near Sumrall.

The crash occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on Highway 42 near the Lamar- Forrest county line. 

Firefighters from Sumrall and Rawls Springs had to extricate all three victims using the "jaws of life."  

Two victims apparently died at the scene.  The third was taken to Forrest General Hospital with unknown injuries.  None of the three victims have been identified.

A portion of Highway 42 was closed for more than two hours.  The cause is under investigation.

    Nearly three dozen Lamar County residents and officials gathered for a public hearing held by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks on Tuesday.
