Hattiesburg opens new fire station

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg has officially opened its new downtown fire station.

Firefighters, family members and city officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday to dedicate the new Wayne Lee station number one.

The new station sits on the site of the old station, which was heavily damaged by hurricane Katrina. Two federal grants paid for the $2 million construction project.

As part of the ceremony, a new building plaque was unveiled and two fire trucks were driven into their new bays.
