Jones County mother and child lose home in fire

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County mother and her 2- year- old child are homeless tonight after fire damaged a home they moved into only two days ago.

The fire was reported at around 9:30 at a residence on Choctaw Drive in the Shady Grove community.

Firefighters from the Shady Grove and Sharon volunteer fire departments were able to contain the fire, but not before significant damage were done to the bedroom area and roof of the home.

The rest of the structure sustained smoke and water damage.  No one was in the room at the time of fire and no other injuries were reported.

The cause has yet to be determined but officials found a burned out electrical space heater in one of the bedrooms.
