Supplemental Outreach Initiatives

(February 1, 2012 thru January 15, 2013)

FCC Menu Categories

  1. Participation in at least four job fairs by station personnel who have substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions;
  2. Hosting of at least one job fair;
  3. Co-sponsoring of at least one job fair with organizations in the business and professional community whose membership includes substantial participation by women and minorities;

Annual event saluting area high school Val and Sal for their outstanding accomplishments.

WDAM, in partnership with Jones Jr. College, saluted area high school VALS and SALS. Event included morning breakfast with discussions of scholarships, future job opportunities including broadcasting and journalism and recognition ceremonies. The day continued with TV interviews/shooting for half hour show that airs on WDAM, end of May.

WDAM STATION TOURS-

We allow various groups into the station and show them the behind the scenes workings of a broadcast television station. Staff explains all the various jobs and services provided by the different departments.

WDAM TV station tours have been given to various school classes, civic clubs, Boy & Girl Scouts, church groups, Senior citizen groups, and exchange students.

Approximately 15 companies took part…everything from State Farm Insurance, Chambers Forestry Group, Avon, Haynes Law Firm, South Central Regional Medical Hospital, Jones County EMT Service, Hattiesburg Clinic and Salvation Army.

Describe Nature of Initiative:

 

PINE BELT EXPO

 

WDAM manned a booth at the EXPO which promotes local businesses in the Area Development Partnership. This EXPO allows our public to see some to the area businesses, ask questions about services, etc. Over 2 thousand people attended this year. WDAM talked with public about our new HD set, and the ABC programming now on our secondary channel.

WDAM was a Silver level sponsor. We manned the booth. Forrest General Hospital, Comcast, WHLT, Fox 23,Waffle House, City of Hattiesburg, Courtesy Ford, Southern Pine Electric Power Association were just a few of the 50 other local businesses that participated.

Shifts were rotated between Pam McGovern, WDAM Creative Services/ Marketing Director, Devon Laird, Michael Perry, Brad Clark and Amanda Kirby in Marketing. Weathercasters Nick Ortego, Rex Thompson, Robert Whitehurst, reporters Ontario Richardson and Elizabeth Googe also helped manned the booth.
