New Augusta clerk indicted on embezzlement charges

NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) - The former city clerk for New Augusta has been indicted by the Perry County Grand Jury on embezzlement and forgery charges.

Emily Holder, 44, of Petal is accused of embezzling more than $52,000 from the city.

The State Auditor's Office notes Holder created checks made out to her and forged Mayor Albert Garner's Signature.

Holder was employed by the city from 2001 to June 2009 when she resigned.

The alleged embezzlement charges date back as far as 2006. Holder was arrested last week and bonded out.

No trial date has been set.
