Lamar County authorities arrest several in drug raid

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A major drug raid on several homes throughout Lamar County early Friday led to several arrests and the discovery of multiple meth labs.

"We ended up arresting 15 individuals for various charges - sale of controlled substance possession of precursors and also manufacturing of controlled substances," said Sheriff Danny Rigel.

Rigel said this has been an ongoing investigation for the last year.

The majority of people arrested were booked on multiple charges and nine out of the 15 were females.

"A lot of different cross sections of society are involved in this," added Rigel. "It's not what you just normally think of when you hear about drug-deal-type stuff. People from all walks of life do it and get caught up in it."

Authorities confiscated three handguns and one pound of marijuana. In addition, they discovered two meth labs.
