Jones County to build new justice court

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Jones County Justice Court judges say they are in need of another building, and supervisors say they are planning to build a new court building in the near future.

Board President Andy Dial said they recently issued a $1.1 million bond to help build a new facility.

Three of the judges said there are pictures which prove their working conditions are deplorable.

"I know that the people who own the building do everything they can to try and keep the facility adequate for the justice system," said Justice Court Justice Howell Beech. "But the old building is just so old that it is in such bad need of repair that they can't keep up."

"We've been looking at ways of building a building a the last year or two," said Dial. "We had problems committing because of the indebtedness we we're old by the federal government to FEMA. We have borrowed some bond money in the last few months in order to build a building."

Dial added all plans should be finalized by mid-summer.
