NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) - A train derailment in New Augusta Tuesday morning left boxcars in a residential neighborhood and destroyed tracks in the center of town.

A Canadian National train derailed at 6:30 a.m. along Hwy 29. Seven cars out of 104 were ejected from the tracks. The train's engine car was not.

Two train cars landed in a nearby neighborhood, but no injuries have been reported. The damage to both the train and the tracks was extensive.

The train was carrying coal. Officials with Canadian National said speed was not a factor in the accident. The speed limit for the area is 45 mph.

Emergency personnel and representatives from Canadian National are on the scene. They say there is no threat to the area.

Officials expect the cleanup to take three to four days.
