Pine Belt welcomes first babies of 2010

By Charles Herrington -  Bio | Email

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Two Pine Belt newborns from families in Jasper and Marion counties are sharing the honors as the first babies born in our area this new year. Both Jarvis O'Neal Lindsey and Austin Tyler Atkins were born at exactly 2:30 a.m.

Lindsey came into the world at South Central Regional Medical Center at 6 pounds, 9 ounces. Atkins made his grand entrance at Wesley Medical Center at 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

Both mothers and babies are doing fine.

"I never thought he would be the first baby of the new year, but my aunt and them told me that you are going to have the first baby of the new year," said Mindy Ratcliff, Jarvis' mother.

"It feels great...I just wanted him to hurry up and get out and finally, he came and he was the first one, so he gets all the publicity," said Shonda Atkins, Austin's mother.

The staff at Forrest General Hospital also welcomed their first baby of 2010 early today, at 2:46 a.m.
