Sen. wants salary cuts for elected officials

By Charles Herrington -  Bio | Email

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - One Hattiesburg-area senator says before any cuts to any state agencies are made in the coming 2010 legislative session, lawmakers should cut their own salaries first. Senator Billy Hudson has pre-filed a bill which would trim the paychecks for all state-wide elected officials by 10 percent.

He believes the bill could be passed if it could be moved out of committee.

"I believe most of my colleagues will also agree that we've got to do the same thing," Hudson said. "But, I just want to make sure everybody from the governor on down participates in this, not just the senators or the representatives, but all the commissioners and the state-wide elected officials," Hudson said.

The legislative session begins at noon on January 5th.
