Longtime mayor of Bassfield dies

BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) - Longtime Bassfield Mayor Buford Blount died Tuesday morning apparently of a massive heart attack.

Blount, 87, had served as mayor of the small Jeff Davis County community for 36 years.

City Hall workers say Blount worked in the office Monday and called this morning to say he would be in today.

He apparently suffered the heart attack at home.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time.

Blount is survived by his wife Cecil, three daughters and two sons.
