Mt. Olive Wins First State Title in 20 years..

Somewhere Steve McNair Sr. must be smiling.  The Mt. Olive Pirates won their first state title in 20 years, beating Durant for the Class A Championship 27-26 in overtime.  Reuben Ducksworth scored the winning touchdown and kicked the deciding p.a.t. to earn his school's second state  title.

Down 14-0 after one quarter and 20 to 7 in the first half, Mt. Olive rallied to force the game to overtime.   Duckworth scored on a 53 yard run and a 88 yard kickoff return.  The Pirate defense didn't allow another point until the overtime period.

Mt. Olive last won the state title in 1989 when junior quarterback Steve McNair Sr. guided the Pirates to a win over Smithville.   More on the Pirates on Friday's 6pm edition and on Sportsjournal with Heather Cook.
