PETAL, MS. (WDAM) - Petal native Brandon Clemts returned home Sunday after serving six months in Iraq. He wanted to let his little brother, 7 year old Remington Smith, know he was back in town, so he surprised him and his second grade classmates on Monday morning.

Smith said he missed Clemts a lot and now that he is home for the next two weeks the brothers can play video games, get caught up on movies and celebrate Clemts's upcoming 23rd birthday. For the boy's mother, Renee Smith, it means her whole family is reunited.

"It's great, he's going to be home for his birthday and we are going to throw Thanksgiving and Christmas and his birthday all in one day I guess, that's what we'll do," said Smith.

While Brandon Clemts won't be able to celebrate Christmas Day with his family, he said the letters soldiers receive from people all over the country are deeply appreciated.

"It means a lot to us that those people write to us and let us know that they care about us and they are praying for us and everything like that so just keep it up," said Clemts.

Clemts said following this break he doesn't know when he'll be able to see his family again, so they plan to make the next two weeks extra special.
