HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Seven on Your Side learned Thursday morning that Wonda Hatcher of Beaumont received her small intestine transplant operation Wednesday night at an Indianapolis transplant center.

Hatcher traveled to the hospital with her sister, Rose Haswell, on Monday. Haswell said Hatcher is recovering nicely from her surgery and all of her vital signs are normal.

State Representative Percy Watson of Hattiesburg was instrumental in helping Hatcher receive the operation and navigate Mississippi Medicaid, to cover it's cost.

"It's just lets us know that government can work. And Medicaid whether we want to accept it or not is a form of national healthcare. And that we are just so honored to know that Mrs. Hatcher is hopefully headed toward getting much better," said Watson.

Wonda Hatcher's recovery is expected to last anywhere from six months to a year.
