Gordon's Creek Run raises funds for R3SM

By Charles Herrington -  Bio | Email

Dozens of people hit the streets of downtown Hattiesburg Saturday morning to raise money for the ongoing effort to help those hurt by Hurricane Katrina and other disasters. A first-ever, Gordon's Creek 5-K Walk and 10-K Run was held to raise funds for the organization, Recover, Rebuild and Restore Southeast Mississippi, or R3SM.

Much of the funds will go towards restoring a century-old boarding house on Buschman Street, which will house volunteers who will work in our area.

About 100 runners and walkers participated.

Also downtown today, the City of Hattiesburg hosted a first-ever, garage sale to benefit the United Way. Hundreds of items donated by city employees were sold.

The city hoped to raise $5,000 for the organization's annual campaign.
