A Hattiesburg police officer accidentally shot himself in the foot Monday while transporting prisoners from a detention center. Officials say the officer who was assigned to the warrants division, was picking up inmates at the Forrest county detention center on Brady road when his firearm accidentally discharged, striking him in the right foot. He was taken to a Hattiesburg hospital where he was treated for his wound. He's expected to be released later today. Officials say an investigation is ongoing to determine how the officer shot himself.
