HATTIESBURG, MS.(WDAM) - On Saturday, October 31st, The American Cancer Society is hosting the Pine belt's first ever "Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk." Participating in that event along with 40 of her friends is Judy Gill.

Gill is a breast cancer survivor and the Nutrition and Food Service Director at Wesley Medical Center. "I am a one year breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in December 2007," said Gill.

Judy Gill is now clear of breast cancer. Her focus now is on raising awareness about the disease.

"So you learn a lot during this whole process but you know there are friends and families out there that support you and you have agencies like the American Cancer Society that provide you with the tools that you need," said Gill.

One of Gill's big supporters during her illness was co-worker and friend Rodney Gresham. "It really surprised us in fact, we had just lost my wife's father from cancer and we came back to work and we found out this. We were the first people that they called," said Gresham.

Wesley Medical Center has been very supportive of breast cancer awareness events this October including the Hub City's first ever Making Strides walk.

If you would like to participate in the walk, registration starts at 8am at Pride field on the Southern Miss Campus.
