Lamar County close to adopting new zoning rules

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Lamar County is one step closer to a vote on adopting the new proposed zoning ordinance.

Action on the ordinance has been delayed a month to allow the supervisors and all concerned parties time to become more familiar with the particulars of the document.

The board met Tuesday to address suggestions and concerns from developers and realtors about the ordinance and make final adjustments to the document. County officials said the new ordinance will help protect the investments of property owners in highly developed areas of the county.

The new guidelines will give the county the tools to help come in and finish the sub division or take care of a sub division or places where there have been no rules in the past.

Over the next month the ordinance will be put into its final form and a vote is expected to happen in November.

If approved, the ordinance will take effect at the start of 2010.
