HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg's city department of Urban Development is hoping to become more efficient with new software as well as a new employee in code enforcement.

The department's new software, which allows staff members to use the same database, went online in September. The department will be able to more accurately keep historical information about land parcels, zoning and permits, as well as code enforcement violations.

Urban Development Director Pattie Brantley says with a new addition to code enforcement the city can better handle complaints.

"Neighborhoods were given survey's and stricter code enforcement was the number one need that was stated to improve their property values and to keep a quality of life that they desire," said Brantley.

Many code enforcement violations stem from citizen complaints to the city's action center which can be reached at 601-545-4500.
