Jones County serial rapist may have struck again

NEW IBERIA, LA (WDAM) - Jones County's serial rapist may have claimed another victim, this time in Louisiana.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said Wenesday that DNA evidence links the hispanic male suspect to a sexual assault on an 87-year-old woman in New Iberia in August.

Hodge said the man made seven reported attacks, the first in Meridian in 2005. After that, he struck six times between 2007 and 2009 in Jones County.

Hodge said an eyewitness in louisiana saw the suspect driving a small older model red car with wrap around lights and a faded hood.

Police urge residents to remain vigilant and contact Jones County Crime Stoppers at 601-428-7867 with any information.

The suspect is described as a hispanic male, about 5 foot 8 inches tall in his mid to late 20s.

There is a 56,000 cash reward for the capture of the rapist.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
