Police find body of husband wanted in death of wife

RAWLS SPRINGS, MS (WDAM) - The search is over for a man wanted in the shooting death of his wife. Authorities said Rosmond Lay apparently committed suicide at a rest stop near Eutaw, Ala., near Tuscaloosa.

Coroner Butch Benedict said a night watchman making his rounds found the body about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Authorities said Rosmond Lay was found dead sitting in his wife's missing Toyota Camry with the motor still running. He had apparently changed the license plate.

A manhunt had been underway since Tuesday morning, when Andrea Lay, 27, was discovered dead, her body burned underneath a blanket in her Rawls Springs home.

Forrest County deputies were called to a home at 108 Valley Drive in Rawls Springs after family members became concerned when the woman did not answer her phone.

Coroner Butch Benedict said the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

She was a nurse at Oshners Clinic in New Orleans and was a 2008 graduate of USM's school of nursing.
