HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Keeping up with technology, Forrest County Chancery Court records will soon be going all digital.

The board of supervisors voted Monday morning to spend more than $35,175 allowing a company to come in and perform historical imaging as well as scanning and indexing services.

This would mean anyone looking for certain files could find and print them instantly. Chancery Clerk Jimmy Havard says the new format will also serve as a back up and safety feature.

"If we were to have a storm or a fire or whatever, those records will be backed up and safe and we can regenerate the file down the road if we have to," said Havard.

All past land records have already been scanned in and once all the court records are digitized, the staff will then pick up with all the new files.
