PETAL, MS. (WDAM)- The membership of Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church is an active one. At their center is Pastor Michael or Mickey Steele as he's known. Steele, a native of Purvis, has been a pastor at the church for seven years.

The last year has been a difficult one for Steele and his family. His father passed away, and then Steele noticed his health was suffering.

"After my Dad died I got to the point where I could not remember things and concentrate on things and I just thought it had something to do with him dying," described Steele.

Shortly afterwards Steele experienced seizures and learned he had a large brain tumor. It took four surgeries to remove the non cancerous tumor.

"They told my family when I had these surgeries there was a chance I wouldn't make it through the operations and I could be paralyzed or anything like that could happen, so I realized I had been given another chance," said Steele.

Steele says he's feeling well now and in a month he'll be able to regain some normal activities like driving.
