Liquor in the new parts of Hattiesburg? 10 voters hold key

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Ten registered voters hold the key as to whether or not newly annexed areas of the Hub City will remain dry, or be able to serve a variety of alcoholic beverages.

The special election takes place on Oct. 27.

Hattiesburg city clerk Eddie Myers said 10 voters live within sections of the city annexed in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

In 2008, Seasons restaurant in the Newpointe shopping center was annexed. Owner and operator Jim thompson said they would like to serve alcohol in response to what their customers desire.

Currently, establishments in the recently annexed dry areas can only serve beer and light wine, and it will stay that way if all 10 of these voters stay away from the polls.
