LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County Junior College freshman has been recognized by the state senate for her perfect attendance record.

Shelby Hanna is a 2009 graduate of South Jones High School. Hanna has had perfect attendance for over 13 years.

If you add it all up the time equals well over 2,000 days or over 16,000 hours completed. Hanna said school has always been important. She said her father's advice about school went a long way.

"My dad would tell my brother every year to get a good education and stay in school and have good character," said Hanna. "It just helped and I just thank God that I have been blessed for not being sick."

State Senator Chris McDaniel commended Hanna for her dedication over the years.

"To think that she went to school for 13 years and never missed a single day is an incredible achievement," said McDaniel. "It shows character, dedication, and perseverance and I thought she deserved this award."

Hanna is a journalism student at JCJC. She said she has not missed any classes this school year.
