HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - On Thursday night the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra will begin their 89th season with a concert titled "Fashionable Firsts."

Attendees are encouraged to dress up for the performance. And the spiffy crowd will be entertained not only by the symphony but also from a guest performance by a renowned musician and internet sensation.

"This is another first, this is his first time in Mississippi his name is Joshua Roman and he's from Seattle Washington, a prodigy of Yo Yo Ma's," said Jay Dean, the symphony's Music Director.

And while the symphony is busily preparing for their show, across campus the young actors in the Theatre Department are rehearsing for their upcoming debut of "Hitchcock Blonde." Opening night is October first, and the production is being directed by Monica Hayes.

"Hitchcock Blonde is a contemporary piece about two people who try to restore a lost Hitchcock gem," according to Hayes.

Portraying one of the character's in the play is USM sophomore, Margaret Wild. "When I first heard about the play I didn't know what it was about I figured it was only about why Hitchcock is obsessed with blonde's," said Wild.

The play features varying time periods and other components designed to keep an audience focused. However, the show due to some adult language and content is intended for mature audiences only.

For ticket information about both the symphony and Theatre Department's upcoming performances, contact the USM ticket office at 601-266-5418.
