Bullets fly in the heart of the Hub City

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A drive-by shooting took place in Hattiesburg Monday afternoon at one of the busiest intersections in the city.

Investigators said Montarro Collins of Magee, 30; Dennis Smith of Hattiesburg, 31; Kentorre Hall of Bassfield, 26; and Marlon Wilson of New Orleans opened fire on an SUV at the intersection of 40th Avenue and Hardy Street after an argument.

The suspects also shot at another car that wasn't involved, but no one was injured. The suspects were last seen heading Southbound on 40th Avenue, and were later picked up on Lincoln Road Extension by Hattiesburg police.

"That's one of our major intersections on Hardy street," said Hattiesburg Police Spokesman Synarus Green.

"The number of vehicles that were in that area, the number of people who were in the stores, the number of people who might have been shopping in the area was high, so danger-wise it's a serious problem; luckily it didn't turn out any worse than it was"

All four suspects were taken to the Forrest county regional jail and charged with two counts of drive by shooting.
