Viewpoint - USM vs. Alcorn

Two Mississippi universities with rich football traditions will meet this Saturday night at “The Rock” on the USM campus.

The Golden Eagles of the University of Southern Mississippi and the Braves of Alcorn State promise to deliver an exciting football matchup and an entertaining half time show as well.

WDAM is proud to be the media sponsor for this match-up between two Mississippi schools.  There are a couple of well known universities in the state that would not dare play either of these fine schools.  We won’t mention their names because everyone knows who they are.  You won’t see either of these fine schools playing in, oh, say Oxford or Starkville, but you can see them in Hattiesburg.

There is sure to be a big crowd on hand and this is a wonderful thing for the Pinebelt.  Make plans to bring the whole family and attend this Saturday as Southern Miss and Alcorn do battle at the Rock.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
