HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM)- The Arts Departments at Southern Miss are busily preparing for Thursday night's 2009 Gala at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

The Moulin Rouge themed fundraiser is designed to support Southern Miss music, dance, theater and art and design students. Over five hundred tickets have been sold for the benefit and it'll feature over five hundred performers.

Most of the entertainment will be provided by USM students, who will showcase their talents for the greater Hub City community. Mike Lopinto is the Gala's designer and director.

"And this is really a way for students to do what they do best and for the proceeds to help them do that even more in light of budget cuts. So it goes right to them to help them continue doing what they love and what they are passionate about."

Money raised from the benefit will help fund future student performances and other arts activities.
