HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Some Hattiesburg residents say something, possibly the chemical creosote, is flowing in to one of the city's creeks.

City leaders and members of the Forrest County Environmental Support Team were on hand Wednesday morning along West Pine Street next to Gordon's Creek where several of the city's monitoring wells are.

Support team members say the stain on the concrete leading to the creek from the wells is a clear indication something is flowing and has been for a while.

"We don't know what it is. We made the proper calls to MDEQ and we alerted them of the monitoring wells to see what it is and what it's not," said Hattiesburg city spokesman John Brown.

City leaders say it shouldn't take long for tests to be done and results to come back.
