LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Jones County authorities are looking for an inmate who walked away from a road crew Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Alex hodge said Gregory Simmons, 25, of Laurel escaped from a road crew on South Fourth Avenue and Maple Street.

Hodge said it is believed Simmons' girlfriend picked him up in a light green Ford Explorer with a Jasper County license tag.

Simmons was in jail on drug charges but now faces additional charges for the escape. Hodge said Simmons' girlfriend could also face jail time for aiding a felon.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Gregory Simmons you're asked to call the Jones County Sheriff's Department at 601-425-3147.
