LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel City Council will conduct a public hearing at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, concerning the 2010 city budget.

On Aug. 26 ,the administration proposed cutting 16 positions, three are full time and 13 part time.

Laurel Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Keveryn said those 16 positions will save the city about $435,000.

The city has to eliminate a half million dollars of the budget in order to submit a balanced budget for next year.

Within that budget, the administration proposed giving the city judge a 20,000 increase. The council is not expected to vote on the budget until Sept. 15.
