HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - William Carey University students started the school year Monday with an opening Convocation at the school's Fine Arts Center.

The ceremony brought together University leaders from both the faculty and student body. This is an important year for William Carey. They recently dedicated their newly re-built Gulf Coast Campus at Tradition and are welcoming a record number of students to the University this semester.

President Tommy King said total enrollment for William Carey is now at more than 32-hundred students.

"We almost are at capacity on the Tradition campus, and we have the largest enrollment ever in Hattiesburg," said King.

King said the University also has the largest first time freshman class ever. The class of 2013 is a talented group with an average ACT score of over 23.
