Viewpoint - Pine Belt Hall of Famers

The Pine Belt will score big this Friday night in Jackson at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame since three of five inductees have deep Hattiesburg connections.

Among the inductees will be Robert Morgan, along with two former Suthern Mss head football coaches- Jim Carmody and Jeff Bower.  Hattiesburg native Robert Morgan led the way for professional golf in Mississippi for many years by taking the original magnolia classic - which began in Hattiesburg - all the way to a full-fledged PGA event now held annually in Jackson.  On the football front, both Carmody and Bower led extremely successful football programs with high winning percentages that helped make Southern Miss a nationally known football power.

Morgan, Carmody and Bower, three names very familiar to the Pine Belt, all receiving the most prestigious sports honor our state can bestow.

We congratulate and salute these gentlemen who did so much to bring positive recognition to this part of the state.
