LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Thousands of people from across the southeast are in Laurel for the 2009 Dixie Youth World Series.

Parks and Recreation Director Elvin Ulmer said this is an long-awaited event.

Ulmer said the city has been planning for the Dixie Youth World Series for over two years. He said opening ceremonies will be held at the Laurel High School Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the games will start Saturday at 4 p.m.

"We have a band coming out of Louisiana called Moe Joes," said Ulmer. "JCJC is going to be coordinating our opening ceremony show. We are going to be using local students for local high schools and junior high, and also we are going to have fireworks after the world series."

Two dozens boys ages 10 through 14 will be participating in the 2009 Dixie Youth World Series.
