Petal to hire new police chief

By Jeff Daley jdaley@wdam.com

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - The friendly city could have a new police chief as early as 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday).

The Petal Board of Alderman is expected to vote to confirm Leonard Fuller as the city's new chief.

Fuller has served as interim chief for the past month, ever since the board decided not to retain former chief Lee Shelbourne.

Fuller served as assistant chief under Shelbourne prior to being named interim chief.

Fuller said he does not plan on making any major changes and is looking forward to the new challenges he will face.

"I plan on continuing the professionalism that we have here in the Petal police department," said Fuller. "I believe in treating everybody like you would want to be treated. I hope to continue that professionalism."

Fuller was the only applicant for the position to apply by the stated deadline.
