The United Way of southeast Mississippi kicked off their August Pacesetter fund raising campaign with a special meeting at the Family Y in Hattiesburg Thursday.

Pacesetters are organizations throughout the region who hold their employee giving campaigns a month earlier than the overall campaign.

The goal of the pacesetters is to build momentum and set the pace for the rest of the community to follow.

Eleven organizations from throughout south east Mississippi are serving as pace setters and will use a variety of ways with their employees to raise money for the United Way.

"Some companies have games, they have fun, they have United Way agencies out to come talk with them about the benefits of supporting the United Way," said Jerome Brown, pacesetter chairman.  "But mainly just during the month of August 11 companies are the ones that are actually putting together plans to make the campaign a success."

Participating as pacesetters are Anderson Design Center, Bancorp South, The First, Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg Clinic, Mississippi Power, the Pine Burr Area Council of Boy Scouts, Regions, Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Iniative, Wesley Medical Center and Zeon Chemicals.

The community campaign starts on September 3rd at their annual kickoff where the Pacesetters will announce their results.
